Pharmacological effects of neomycin belongs to aminoglycoside antibacterial drugs, antibacterial spectrum and kanamycin similar. It has a strong antibacterial effect on most gram-negative bacilli such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella and Pasteuella, and is also sensitive to Staphylococcus aureus. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, gram-positive bacteria (except Staphylococcus aureus), rickettsia, anaerobic bacteria and fungi are resistant to this product.

Pharmacokinetics Neomycin is rarely absorbed when administered orally and topically, with only 3% of the total excreted in the urine and most excreted in the feces unchanged after oral administration. Inflammation of the intestinal mucosa or ulceration may increase absorption. Injections are rapidly absorbed and the in vivo process is similar to that of kanamycin.
